In a move to quell growing speculation, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has reaffirmed his allegiance to the ODM Party after the passing of its leader, Raila Odinga.
Sifuna, who has faced mounting scrutiny since Raila’s death on October 15, vowed to focus his efforts on ensuring the party remains cohesive and strong.
“Because ODM is one of your (Raila) biggest legacies, I, as Sifuna, will do everything in my power to keep this party together even in the face of provocation, and you know what we are talking about,” Sifuna said.

The Senator went on to urge the remaining leadership within the ODM party to remain united and take a step back from politics to listen to millions of other party affiliates on the way forward.
Prior to Raila’s passing, Sifuna found himself at odds with sections of the ODM Party following his criticism of the MoU signed with the government.
Speaking in August, he declared that he would not hesitate to quit the party should it choose to back President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027.
However, in a clear shift of stance, the party’s Secretary General emphasized that following Raila’s death, he would not associate himself with any elements within ODM seeking to undermine or divide the party.
Sifuna received one of the loudest cheers during introductions at Raila’s burial at JOOUST in Bondo.
He joined Ruth Odinga and Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati in pledging to keep ODM united.
However, questions remain on how the party will maintain unity amid divisions over its ties with the government.
