Several Students Arrested as Unrest Erupts at Samoei Boys

Several Samoei Boys High School students spent the night in police custody after they were arrested for allegedly participating in unrest at the institution.

Witnesses say the chaos erupted on Wednesday night at around 8pm, after a group of Form Four candidates reportedly attempted to set parts of the school on fire.

Preliminary reports suggest the disturbance was triggered by frustrations over alleged denial of access to exam leakage and heightened surveillance during the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

Residents living near the school recounted hearing loud screams as students ran amok inside the compound, threatening to torch buildings and damage property.

Officers who were on high alert, quickly intervened, dispersing the students with tear gas canisters. Locals reported hearing the loud explosions as the canisters were fired.

No injuries were reported during the incident, and officers from Nandi Police Station swiftly restored order, arresting several students believed to be involved in the unrest.

The disruption occurred amid the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, which are scheduled to conclude this Friday.

Authorities have urged both students and parents to remain calm as investigations continue.
