Setback to Waititu As Court Rules on Bail Request

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has suffered a huge blow as he will remain in custody till April 23 2025, when the court will rule on his appeal.

In a ruling delivered by the High Court Judge, Justice Lucy Njuguna, on Wednesday, 26, 2025, Waititu will have to remain in custody for a month when the court will issue a ruling on whether he will amend his appeal.

Njuguna, in her ruling, also directed Senior Counsel Kalonzo Musyoka, along with lawyers Eugene Wamalwa, Kine Mungai, Ndegwa Njiru, Wilfred Nyamu and Jeremy Njenga, to file written submission in response to the objection of the fresh bail application by the Director of Public Preosecutions (DPP).

The former governor had previously been denied a bail request over not presenting sufficient grounds to warrant his release.

On March 11, through his lawyer Kibe Mungai, he made a second attempt to be released on bail, arguing that there we insufficient evidence to prove he was guilty of the corruption case.

Waititu was sentenced alongside his wife, Susan Wangari, who was guilty of conflict of interest who to pay a fine of Ksh500,000 or face a year jail term.
