Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been removed from the Senate Energy Committee following a reshuffle of standing committees announced in the Senate on Wednesday, June 17.
The changes were communicated by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot through a notice of motion seeking the reconstitution of several standing committees in accordance with the Senate Standing Orders.
Under the new changes, Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang has been nominated to replace Sifuna in the Energy Committee, ending the Nairobi senator’s tenure in one of the Senate’s key oversight committees.

The reshuffle also affects the Senate ICT Committee, where Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu has been nominated to replace Nominated Senator Beatrice Ogolla.
In the Energy Committee, Garissa Senator Abdul Mohamed Haji has also been nominated to replace Beatrice Ogolla, while Ogolla has been reassigned to the Agriculture Committee, taking over the seat previously held by Kajwang.
The proposed changes will take effect once they are debated and approved by the Senate, paving the way for the newly nominated members to assume their committee responsibilities.
The Senate periodically reconstitutes its standing committees to reflect changes in membership, improve efficiency and ensure committees remain effective in executing their legislative, oversight and representative mandates.
The Energy Committee, chaired by Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, who also serves as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader, is tasked with overseeing matters relating to energy policy, electricity, petroleum, renewable energy and the broader energy sector.
