Senate Committee Seeks Arrest of Governor Susan Kihika

The Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations has ordered the arrest of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika after she allegedly failed to honour repeated invitations and summons issued by the committee.

The directive was issued on Monday, June 22, during a meeting chaired by Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo, who said the committee resolved to have the governor arrested and presented before lawmakers after she repeatedly failed to appear before the committee.

Governor Kihika had been summoned to provide submissions as part of the committee’s consideration of a petition concerning the alleged enforced disappearance of Brian Odhiambo, a fisherman who went missing after reportedly being taken by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers at Lake Nakuru National Park in January 2025.

Odhiambo’s disappearance sparked protests in Nakuru, with residents accusing KWS officers of involvement in his disappearance and demanding justice.

The case later resulted in criminal proceedings after six KWS officers were arraigned before the Nakuru Law Courts on May 5 over the alleged abduction.

The officers Francis Wachira, Alexander Lorogoi, Isaac Ochieng Odhiambo, Michael Wabukala, Evans Kimaiyo and Abdulrahaman Ali Sudi were charged with abducting Odhiambo with the intention of secretly and unlawfully confining him.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the alleged offence was committed on January 18, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m. in Bondeni, Nakuru East Sub-County.

The Senate committee is expected to continue its inquiry into the petition as it seeks accountability over the circumstances surrounding Odhiambo’s disappearance.
