Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has cautioned Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya against leaving DAP-K to establish a new political party, saying such a move could jeopardize his political future.
In a statement on Monday, July 6, Salasya urged Natembeya to carefully consider the implications of abandoning the party, arguing that it would be a politically risky decision.
According to the legislator, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa commands significant support in Trans Nzoia County, and Natembeya could lose a sizable portion of that backing if he exits the party.

Salasya also noted that DAP-K would likely field its own gubernatorial candidate in the next election, while Ford Kenya and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) could also present candidates, potentially splitting the vote and making Natembeya’s re-election bid more challenging.
He further urged the governor to end his political differences with Wamalwa, stressing that successful politics depends on unity, cooperation and strategic alliances rather than personal rivalries.
Salasya warned that sidelining Wamalwa could have political consequences and suggested that support from Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna alone may not be sufficient to guarantee victory in Trans Nzoia.
His remarks come days after Natembeya hosted Sifuna and other leaders allied to the Linda Mwananchi movement in Kitale, where they announced plans to hold political rallies in Trans Nzoia on July 25 before proceeding to Bungoma County on July 26.
During the meeting, Natembeya also announced plans to unite the Western Kenya region under a single political party ahead of the 2027 General Election, saying the region intends to vote as one political bloc.
