Ruto Opens Teaching Jobs for Akorino Community Members

President William Ruto has pledged to end what he termed long-standing discrimination against members of the Akorino church, citing their unique religious practices, culture, and way of life.

The Akorino church, which traces its origins to the colonial era as a movement that resisted colonial rule, has in recent years continued to push for greater recognition and inclusion.

Speaking on Sunday, April 12, during a thanksgiving service at State House Nairobi, the President noted that successive post-independence governments had often sidelined the Akorino community in socio-economic opportunities due to their beliefs, dressing, and lifestyle.

He committed to fully integrating Akorino members into government programs and opportunities, stating that the community includes qualified professionals across sectors such as medicine, engineering, and education.

Ruto emphasized that no one should be discriminated against on the basis of faith or attire, adding that competence and skills should guide appointments.

The Head of State further announced plans to include Akorino members in government roles within two weeks, expressing confidence in professionals from the community who have already demonstrated their ability in various fields.

He also revealed plans to create 50 additional teaching vacancies for Akorino members, following what he described as strong performance by those already employed in the education sector.

He directed Deputy Head of Public Service Amos Gatheca to ensure fair distribution of the positions across different regions and said the recruitment process would be fast-tracked to enable the teachers to join the education system in the upcoming school term.
