Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have recovered the body of a 21-year-old female student from RIAT College who had been reported missing.
In a statement issued on Monday, April 13, the DCI said the decomposed body was discovered in RIAT Forest in Kisumu County.
According to the agency, the body bore multiple stab wounds, indicating a violent attack.

The discovery comes after the arrest of Steven Coleman Okoth, who is suspected of orchestrating the gang rape, torture, and subsequent disappearance of the student on the night of April 5, 2026.
DCI indicated that concern over the victim’s whereabouts began when her elder sister was unable to reach her by phone, reportedly due to poor network connectivity.
The situation escalated around midnight when the sister received a distressing text message indicating that the student had been lured into a drinking spree by two male colleagues, leaving her incapacitated.
In that vulnerable state, she was allegedly sexually assaulted and later abandoned in a bush while in critical condition, before her phone went offline.
Detectives subsequently launched investigations and, through forensic analysis, traced the victim’s last known location to the Milimani area near the Kenya Wildlife Service offices.
Initial search efforts in the area, however, did not yield any results.
A breakthrough in the case came after investigators identified and arrested a key suspect believed to be the victim’s former boyfriend, who was reportedly seen with her on the night she went missing.
At the time of his arrest, the suspect was found in possession of key items considered critical to the investigation, which detectives are now using to pursue further leads in the case and track down additional suspects.
Okoth is currently undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court, as authorities continue efforts to locate and apprehend his alleged accomplices.
