Ruto Hits Back at Sifuna Over Rule of Law Remarks

President William Ruto has criticized Linda Mwananchi Movement Leader Edwin Sifuna for saying his sole agenda is to restore constitutionalism and the rule of law.

Speaking in Makutano, West Pokot, on Friday, October 16, Ruto argued that constitutionalism means nothing without an agenda.

He explained that under constitutionalism, Kenya takes pride in being a democracy, which allows citizens to tell a good plan from a bad one, and a good agenda from no agenda.

Ruto said that is the purpose of democracy, adding that he should not be lectured about the rule of law and constitutionalism.

He stated that constitutionalism is meant to guarantee Kenyans the chance to elect a better leader, a better plan and a better agenda.

The President stated that anyone without an agenda, a plan or a vision has nothing in the Republic of Kenya.

He maintained that Kenyans will elect leaders based on their work and delivery records, not slogans.

Ruto expressed confidence that Kenyans would give him a mandate to lead the country for a second term, saying he had delivered on most of the promises he made to the electorate in 2022.

The President reckoned that none of the opposition leaders, especially Sifuna, Jubilee Party Leader Fred Matiang’i, or Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, was a match for him.

The pronouncements add to the heated exchange between the Head of State and the Nairobi Senator, which stemmed from Sifuna describing development projects done outside the confines of the Constitution as shiny things.

Earlier this week, Ruto clapped back at Sifuna for calling a discussion about why he contributes Ksh43,000 monthly to the Social Health Authority, which he argued is a scam.

He said Sifuna was an arrogant and proud leader who did not care about the common mwananchi.

The President explained that Kenyans like the Senator, who earn more, must pay more in SHA remittances to bridge the gap left by the minimal payments made by low-income earners, allowing all Kenyans to access proper healthcare services.
