President William Ruto on Wednesday, April 1, responded to claims by his former Deputy Rigathi Gachagua that the Social Health Authority (SHA) could collapse within six months, casting doubt on the credibility of the information.
Speaking at the Maendeleo ya Wanawake AGM held at State House, Ruto dismissed the assertions as unfounded and lacking any reliable backing.
He accused Gachagua of politicising the SHA and spreading misleading claims, insisting that the health scheme is stable and functioning as intended.

Ruto added that attempts to verify the alleged intelligence revealed no factual basis, further downplaying the concerns raised.
The President said he was accustomed to what he described as Gachagua’s attempts to discredit government programmes through misleading claims.
He cited previous allegations about the sale of state assets and stalled infrastructure projects, which he maintained were false.
Ruto expressed confidence that ongoing projects under his administration would ultimately silence critics through tangible results.
He also pledged to settle Ksh900 million in tax arrears owed by the Maendeleo ya Wanawake Group and committed an additional Ksh250 million to support the formation of the group’s Sacco.
Gachagua had earlier argued that the Social Health Authority (SHA) risks collapsing due to delayed government payments to health facilities for services offered under the national insurance scheme.
He further referenced a National Assembly Health Committee report that questioned the scheme’s sustainability, noting that while millions of Kenyans have registered, only a fraction are actively contributing.
