The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has demolished structures that had been erected on the road reserve in Roysambu along the Thika Superhighway.
The operation, conducted on the night of Wednesday, March 4, targeted roadside stalls that had encroached on the designated road reserve.
Photos and videos of the demolitions shared online showed KeNHA’s excavators flattening the structures along the highway.

The demolitions come after the expiry of KeNHA’s notice to traders in Roysambu to vacate the road reserve.
Through a notice issued on Monday, January 9, the Kenya National Highways Authority ordered traders operating along the roadside at Roysambu in both directions to vacate.
The Kenya National Highways Authority instructed traders operating along the affected stretches to clear their goods from the road reserve within seven days.
According to the notice, roadside traders along the Thika Superhighway at Roysambu in both directions and at Githurai on the Nairobi-bound side were required to vacate the reserve within the stipulated period.
The authority said the move is aimed at paving the way for the construction of bus bays to enhance public transport and ease congestion along the highway.
On the night of Wednesday, February 18, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) demolished structures erected on the road reserve in Githurai 45, leaving several traders counting losses.
Police officers were deployed to the area to maintain security and supervise the demolition exercise targeting roadside stalls.
Following the operation, KeNHA said the structures had raised safety concerns in the busy market area and had contributed to road accidents over time.
The authority noted that the encroachment onto the road reserve posed serious risks to thousands of motorists and pedestrians using the area.
