Public Auction of Obado’s Ksh425M Assets to Begin in October

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has announced that properties worth Ksh425.6 million linked to former Migori Governor Okoth Obado will be auctioned between October 9 and 17, 2025.

In a statement released on Wednesday, September 24, the commission unveiled the auction schedule for several prime assets in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Migori counties, which were forfeited following a corruption case against Obado and his associates.

Among the properties set to go under the hammer are the Sunshine Centre commercial block in Migori, a residential block of 40 units in Suna East, and an unfinished apartment block in Kisumu’s Lowe Estate.

Also listed for auction are multiple high-end residential units in Nairobi, including maisonettes in Loresho and Greenspan, apartments in Riara and Greenspan, as well as a property in Kamagambo.

The forfeited properties form part of a plea bargain deal struck between former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, his co-accused, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in a corruption case tied to the alleged theft of Ksh73.4 million from Migori County between 2013 and 2017.

Obado and 17 others had initially been charged in 2021 with 25 counts, including conspiracy to commit economic crimes, conflict of interest, money laundering, and the unlawful acquisition of public property.

As part of the negotiated settlement, the accused agreed to surrender assets valued at more than three times the disputed amount—approximately Ksh235 million.

These assets included high-end residential and commercial properties as well as vehicles.

To execute the sale, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) engaged three professional auctioneering firms—Galaxy Auctioneers, Keyslan Auctioneers, and Astorion Auctioneers—after obtaining court orders granting it authority to dispose of the assets.
