Beatrice Chebet has earned a promotion within the National Police Service (NPS) after her performance at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service (DIG-KPS) Eliud Lagat on Tuesday, September 23 received NPS Chhebet at Vigilance House on behalf of Inspector General Douglas Kanja.
The athletes had landed in Nairobi earlier in the afternoon following their successful campaign in Tokyo, Japan.

Beatrice Chebet emerged as one of the star performers in Tokyo, storming to victory in both the 10,000m and 5,000m races to claim double gold.
Her triumphs played a key role in Kenya’s impressive medal tally at the World Championships, where the team bagged 11 medals in total—7 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze.
While addressing the athletes, Lagat recommended the promotion of Chebet from Corporal to Sergeant of Police.
In the women’s 10,000 metres final held on Wednesday, September 13, Beatrice Chebet delivered a decisive last-lap surge to strike gold in 30:37.61.
The humid conditions made for a grueling race, with the field remaining tightly bunched until the final lap, when Chebet powered away on the back straight and maintained her lead to the finish line.
Italy’s Nadia Battocletti took silver in a national record of 30:38.23, while Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay settled for bronze in 30:39.65.
A week later, Chebet returned to the track for the 5,000 metres final, where she once again showcased her tactical brilliance.
With two laps to go, Battocletti attempted to inject pace into the race, only for Faith Kipyegon to seize control at the bell.
Chebet stayed glued to her compatriot’s shoulder before launching a blistering sprint with 80 metres remaining, storming down the home straight to secure her second gold medal in 14:54.36.
