PS Raymond Omollo Announces Boda Boda Informant Plan

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has announced that the government plans to enlist boda boda operators as security informants.

Speaking on Saturday, April 18, in Kisumu County after a meeting with stakeholders from the boda boda sector, Omollo said the operators play a critical role in last-mile transport and interact with millions of Kenyans ежедневно.

He noted that their widespread presence and daily interactions position them to help identify suspicious activities and individuals, which can then be reported to police for appropriate action.

Omollo added that the government is seeking to strengthen collaboration between boda boda operators and security agencies, including police and national government administration officers, to enhance intelligence sharing and improve overall security management.

The PS moreover urged boda boda operators to comply with traffic laws and regulations in order to strengthen their working relationship with the security sector.

He emphasised the need for operators to be properly identified and registered, noting that riders should also have valid driving licences and insurance cover for their motorbikes as part of efforts to professionalise the industry.

The development comes months after President William Ruto pledged support for the boda boda sector.

Speaking on August 7, 2025, during a meeting with the Boda Boda Association of Kenya at State House, Nairobi, the President reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the industry and ensuring its stability.

Ruto highlighted the critical role played by boda boda operators and small-scale traders in the country’s economy, noting that the sector remains a key part of his administration’s economic and social agenda.
