President Ruto, President Zelenskyy Hold Talks on Kenya-Ukraine Relations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday, November 6,disclosed that he had held talks with President Ruto focusing on bilateral cooperation and the ongoing war in Ukraine.

In a statement,President  Zelenskyy described the discussions as productive, noting that they covered several key issues, including Russia’s continued aggression and the recruitment of foreign fighters in the conflict.

The Ukrainian President added that both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and implementing ongoing joint projects.

Zelenskyy went on to note that his government is preparing to table a resolution at the United Nations this month to condemn Russia’s abduction and deportation of Ukrainian children. 

He thanked Kenya for standing with Ukraine on this issue.

On his part, President Ruto also noted he had a fruitful phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during which they discussed various issues of mutual interest between the two nations. 

Ruto noted that both leaders expressed concern over reports of young Kenyans being illegally recruited to fight in the Ukraine war and agreed to enhance awareness about the risks of such activities. 

He added that he had requested Zelenskyy to facilitate the release of any Kenyan currently in Ukrainian custody, appreciating the Ukrainian leader for agreeing to his appeal.
