“Sammy Lui was a dedicated public servant, a veteran broadcaster, and the respected State Master of Ceremonies. From his early days as one of Kenya’s pioneer journalists at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation to his time at the Presidential Press Service, and later, as Director of State Events, his powerful voice was the familiar soundtrack to Kenyans. His sterling career influenced many who followed in his footsteps, and his huge contribution to our media industry will not be forgotten. Our condolences to the family, friends, and the media fraternity. Rest In Peace, Lui,” Ruto eulogized.

Sammy Lui’s voice graced Kenyan airwaves long before he became a familiar face at national celebrations.

He began his broadcasting career at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, then known as the Voice of Kenya, before moving to KTN.

His journey later took him to the Office of the President, where he rose to become Director of State Events, a role that saw him coordinate and host national celebrations across the terms of Presidents Moi, Kibaki, and Kenyatta.

The respected broadcaster and MC passed away on Thursday at his Subukia home in Nakuru County.

He was found seated on a chair, having lived quietly near the Subukia Marian National Shrine after retiring from public life.

His body has since been moved to Umash Funeral Home in Nakuru as plans for his burial continue.
