Police Evicted From Riandikira Base Over Ksh 2 Million Rent

The police post in Mwea-West Kirinyaga County has been closed due to unresolved rent arrears.

The six officers in the police post were transferred who had been living rent-free in the house which was provided by businessman Mwangi Thuita who died in 2018.

According to his daughter Irene Njeri, the officers were instructed to start paying rent after his death.

“Before my father died, he instructed the officers to start paying rent from 2018. The arrears have now exceeded Ksh.2 million, which is why we decided to reclaim our property and rent it out to others,” she said.

The eviction has so far left the locals in shock who watched the officers as they parked they loaded their things.

According to the residents, the removal of the officers could pose a potential security threat to Mwea-West as the nearest police station is located four kilometres away.

However, Mwea Police Commander Rashia Ali assured the residents that they would be served by the Rukanga police post.
