Police Crack Down on Suspected Arms Trafficking at Kanyonyo

The police have apprehended a man suspected of being a key player in an illegal firearms trafficking network.

This follows the recovery of firearms and a cache of ammunition during an operation at the Kanyonyo Vehicle Checkpoint (VCP).

In a statement by the National Police Service (NPS), the service said the suspect was intercepted on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, while travelling towards Nairobi.

Officers carried out a targeted search of the vehicle, leading to the recovery of firearms and a large quantity of ammunition concealed inside.

However, the officers did not immediately disclose the number or type of firearms recovered but described the seizure as a significant breakthrough in efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in the illegal arms trade.

Detectives believe the suspect has been involved in the illicit sale, supply, and distribution of firearms and ammunition across several parts of the country.

According to the police, they alleged that the recovered weapons were destined for Nairobi and its surrounding areas, where they could have been used to facilitate criminal activities.

The suspect is currently being held in police custody and is assisting detectives with investigations aimed at identifying other individuals linked to the alleged operation, including suppliers, transporters, and intended buyers.

The service further revealed that he will be arraigned in court once the investigations lapse.
