Police Calls for Witness Accounts After MP Were’s Shooting

The National Police Service has called on Kenyans who could have witnessed the shooting of Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Were, to report to the nearest police station.

The appeal comes after an update by the Police Spokesperson, Muchiri Nyaga, who revealed Were’s last moments before his tragic demise at the Nairobi Hospital.

In a statement on April 30, Nyaga disclosed that yesterday evening, at around 7:30 pm, a white Toyota Crown vehicle stopped at a red traffic light on Ngong Road, near the City Mortuary roundabout.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to the police, a motorcycle carrying a rider and a pillion passenger stopped alongside the Toyota car.

Consequently, the pillion passenger approached the vehicle and fired shots at the passenger side before jumping back onto the motorcycle and speeding away.

After the incident, the driver of the car and a male passenger managed to rush the MP to Nairobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Condemning the murder of the Kasipul lawmaker, the police service expressed its commitment to ensure the perpetrators were brought to book.

“The Service extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, parliamentary colleagues, constituents, and close associates. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact the nearest police station,” the police service stated.
