Oburu Odinga Sets the Record Straight on Sifuna’s ODM Status

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Oburu Odinga has dismissed claims that the party’s embattled secretary general, Edwin Sifuna, was expelled from ODM.

Speaking during a church service at Shalom Miracle Church in Makupa, Mombasa, on Sunday, February 15, Oburu clarified that Sifuna had only been removed from his position as secretary general but continues to be an active member of the party.

He explained that the disciplinary action against Sifuna was a result of indiscipline and emphasized that ODM requires all members to adhere to party rules.

Oburu stressed that those who fail to comply must face appropriate consequences to maintain order and accountability within the party.

Additionally, Oburu reaffirmed the appointment of the interim secretary general, Busia Women Representative Catherine Omanyo, underscoring that she would continue in the role while party structures remain in place.

Oburu maintained that the ODM constitution is clear and that any member who acts against the party must face disciplinary measures, regardless of their rank or position.

He noted that even party leaders are not exempt, adding that he too could be disciplined if he went against the party’s stand.

His remarks come amid rising tensions within ODM following the party’s decision to remove Edwin Sifuna as secretary general after a National Executive Committee resolution.

Sifuna has since moved to court to challenge the decision, with the High Court issuing temporary orders stopping ODM from gazetting his removal until the case is heard and determined.

Amid the growing tensions within ODM, Oburu insisted that the party remains united and would not allow external forces to sow division among its members.
