The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced a nationwide drive to recruit volunteer servicemen and servicewomen.
According to a public notice issued on Tuesday, March 3, the recruitment exercise is scheduled to run from Monday, March 16, 2026, to Saturday, March 21, 2026, starting daily at 8:00 a.m. at designated centers across the country.
The NYS stated that the exercise is open to Kenyan citizens who are residents of the respective Sub-County where recruitment takes place.

Eligible candidates must be between 18 and 24 years old, have attained a minimum mean grade of D plain in KCSE, and hold a valid certificate of good conduct.
Applicants will be required to present their original national identity cards and academic certificates, along with one set of photocopies, at the recruitment centers.
The NYS emphasized that candidates must be willing to undergo a medical examination, complete Basic Paramilitary Training, and be ready to serve the nation voluntarily anywhere in the country.
Successful recruits will report to the NYS Paramilitary Academy in Gilgil or the NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI) in Naivasha on the dates and times specified in their calling letters.
The NYS cautioned that any involvement in corrupt practices will result in immediate disqualification from the recruitment process.
Simultaneously, the NYS has opened 500 vacancies for privates in the service.
Eligible candidates must have a minimum KCSE mean grade of D+, completed prior NYS training, possess a national trade test, and have a clean criminal record.
