A police station in Ndunyu, Nyandarua County, was set on fire on Thursday, June 26, after police allegedly shot a resident.
According to reports, the man, a bodaboda rider, was part of the crowd that had gone to demonstrate outside the police station over cattle theft in the area when he was shot.
The protests erupted after a police officer arrested three suspects who were believed to be behind cattle rustling in the area and took them into custody awaiting arraignment.
The residents demanded that the suspects be surrendered to them for disciplinary purposes.

It was during the incident that one of the officers shot the bodaboda rider.
Following the incident, the area locals attacked the police post and set it on fire, demanding justice for the deceased.
The bodaboda rider on the other hand was rushed to North Kinangop Hospital while in critical condition.
This comes hours after Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen issued a shoot-to-kill order against anyone who attempts to approach a police station.
“I have said that anyone who attempts to approach a police station should be shot down. We will not tolerate people who attack police officers”, the CS said.
