The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has intensified drink-driving enforcement.
The authority has deployed alcoblow operations on major highways and at bus terminals as part of a renewed road safety crackdown.
NTSA confirmed the directive on June 27, 2026, with motorists caught driving under the influence set to face stricter checks as officers increase roadside breathalyser tests on busy routes across the country.
According to NTSA, the crackdown targets drivers suspected of intoxication, warning that impaired judgment behind the wheel remains a major contributor to fatal road crashes.
NTSA officers BM will also be monitoring other traffic offences, including speeding, dangerous overtaking and driving on the wrong side of the road.
“The campaign includes awareness sessions for drivers and passengers, intensified drink-driving (alcoblow) enforcement, and enhanced road safety compliance operations along major highways to promote safer travel during the holiday period,” NTSA stated.
NTSA also flagged driver fatigue, particularly among long-distance motorists, urging transport operators to ensure drivers get adequate rest before embarking on extended journeys.
Officers will also be expected to monitor other risky behaviours, including mobile phone use while driving, lane indiscipline and distracted driving.
Passengers have also been urged to speak up whenever they notice reckless driving behaviour and report incidents before they put lives at risk.
