NPS Rejects Claims of Abductees in Police Custody

The National Police Service (NPS) has refuted persistent claims that its officers are behind recent abduction.

The service said that no police station in the country is holding any person reported missing or alleged to have been abducted.

In a statement, the police termed the allegations as false and unsupported by credible evidence, maintaining that all arrests by police officers are conducted strictly within the law.

“The NPS does not abduct people. Its mandate is unequivocal: to maintain law and order, prevent and detect crime, protect life and property, and arrest suspects strictly in accordance with the Constitution and the law,” the authority stated.

Additionally, the service said that every arrest is recorded in the Occurrence Book (OB), processed through the required legal procedures, and that suspects are presented before the court within the constitutional timelines.

According to the NPS, no police station is currently holding any individual reported or alleged to have been abducted, adding that all reports of missing persons are investigated promptly and professionally.

The service further claimed that some investigations had established that certain reported disappearances were deliberately staged to mislead the public and erode confidence in the police.

As such, he warned that appropriate legal action would be taken where criminal conduct is established.
