A 16-storey building under construction has collapsed in Nairobi’s South C area.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, the incident occurred early Friday morning, January 2, with no casualties reported. Emergency responders were swiftly deployed to the scene to manage the situation.

The Red Cross said a multi-agency response team is currently on site to secure the area and coordinate rescue and safety operations.

The cause of the collapse remains unknown, and investigations are expected to begin once the site is fully secured and assessed by the relevant authorities.

Further details are expected as the Kenya Red Cross and other responding agencies continue to assess the scene and gather more information.

The incident comes just two weeks after the National Construction Authority issued a public warning over structural defects identified at a high-rise development along Peponi Road in Westlands, Nairobi.

The NCA noted that the under-construction residential building showed clear signs of structural weakness, prompting an immediate halt to construction and the sealing off of the site.

A multi-agency technical team was deployed to assess whether the structure could be repaired or would require demolition, as security and disaster teams took over the area and nearby residents were advised to relocate temporarily.
