Amason Kingi Grieves Sudden Loss of His Bodyguard

Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi is mourning the death of his bodyguard, describing it as a sudden and devastating loss.

In a statement issued on Friday, January 2, Kingi expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Corporal John Lwane Lumumba, who had been serving as his security aide.

The Senate Speaker said the death occurred unexpectedly, noting that Lumumba had been in good health in the days leading up to his passing.

He described their bond as going beyond a professional working relationship, adding that Lumumba was not just a member of his security team but a trusted and valued part of his inner circle.

The circumstances surrounding Lumumba’s death were yet to be established at the time of publication, with no official statement released on the cause or the exact time of his passing.

Lumumba’s death adds to a growing list of losses involving security personnel close to prominent Kenyan leaders.

In April 2025, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga lost his longtime aide and bodyguard, George Oduor, who died after a brief illness, while in May the same year former Sports CS Ababu Namwamba announced the death of his bodyguard of 18 years, Corporal Jonah Kemboi Rotich, following health complications.
