Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge Kururia has recently disclosed that President Ruto and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have reached out to Vietnamese authorities regarding the looming execution of a Kenyan national.
Margaret Macharia Nduta is facing the death penalty in Vietnam after she was convicted of smuggling over two kilograms of drugs.
Nduta’s conviction has since gained nationwide attention in Kenya, with many urging Ruto to intervene to quell her execution.

Speaking during a TikTok Live session, MP Kururia disclosed that the government had made an attempt to save her.
According to the MP, the government is currently awaiting a response from Vietnam that has remained adamant as the execution time approaches.
“I am reporting that the president and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have reached out to Vietnam from yesterday and are awaiting answers. They have remained adamant. I have heard many people asking if the president is aware. Yes, he knows and the Kenyan government is only awaiting a response,” Kururia said.
On Thursday, March 6, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court sentenced Nduta to death in a move that reinforced the nation’s harsh stance on drug-related crimes.
It was noted that Nduta was allegedly paid $1,300 to transport the contraband – an allegation which she vehemently denied in court, insisting that she thought she was transporting legitimate goods.
Kenyans continue to eagerly wait for a statement from the government as they count hours before Nduta’s scheduled execution.
