Police Arrest 38 Suspects Linked To Robberies During Ruto’s Nairobi Tour

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives have arrested 38 suspects linked to a spate of robberies targeting pedestrians and motorists along Thika Highway, Waiyaki Way, and Jogoo Road during Ruto’s tour in Nairobi.

According to the DCI, the 38 suspects are in custody awaiting to be arraigned in court on Monday, March 17, 2025.

The suspects are set to face charges of robbery with violence, preparation to commit a felony and obstruction.

“In light of the recent attacks targeting innocent members of the public along Thika Highway, Waiyaki Way, and Jogoo Road, police officers have taken swift action to hold the perpetrators accountable. A total of 38 suspects have been apprehended and are currently in police custody undergoing processing at various police stations as they await their court appearance.

The DCI also noted that they seized seven motorcycles used in terrorizing members of the public, and several mobile phones were recovered and are securely detained as exhibits.

DCI further disclosed that police officers are doing everything they can to identify and apprehend additional suspects behind these attacks.

This comes days after the DCI arrested a criminal gang linked to a string of violent robberies along Thika Highway.

According to DCI, during the operation, police arrested John Junior Oginga, who was armed with a knife when he allegedly robbed a victim of a mobile phone.

Additionally, seven other suspects, namely Jared Nyanza, Darlin Lande, Daniel Okombe, Mike Robert, Elvis Otieno, Reagan Omondi, and Mathenge Gachiri were arrested in Mathare Area 4.

The arrests follow a series of incidents where some city residents were attacked and robbed by goons during President Ruto’s tour.
