Gatundu South Member of Parliament Gabriel Kagombe has confirmed his exit from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party, citing concerns raised by residents in his constituency.
Speaking on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, Kagombe said his decision was guided by the views and wishes of Gatundu South residents, who he claimed had expressed dissatisfaction with the current government.
The MP said that as the elected representative of Gatundu South, he had a responsibility to listen to his constituents and act in accordance with their concerns, including when such views could affect his political future.

Kagombe clarified that his decision to leave UDA was not driven by personal differences with President William Ruto, but rather by what he described as the position taken by residents of his constituency.
He also criticised the government over the state of roads in Gatundu South, arguing that poor infrastructure had continued to affect tea farmers in the area.
Kagombe, who serves as a director at the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), said tea farmers face challenges transporting produce from farms to factories because of the poor state of roads.
He claimed that he had used funds belonging to farmers to undertake road repairs in areas where he believed the government had failed to address the infrastructure problems.
The MP’s departure adds to the growing political shifts within the ruling coalition as politicians reassess their party affiliations ahead of the 2027 General Election.
