Embakasi North Member of Parliament James Gakuya has downplayed the political influence of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in the Mt Kenya region.
Gakuya argued that the former head of state no longer commands the support he once enjoyed and insisted that the region has moved on from his leadership.
According to the legislator, Kenyatta’s grip on Mt Kenya politics has significantly weakened, and his ability to shape the political direction of the community has diminished.

Gakuya maintained that current leaders and emerging voices in the region now hold greater sway over voters than the former president.
He went on to note that it will be difficult for the Uhuru-led Jubilee party to revive itself and perform better than it did when he was in power.
The remarks come days after the Jubilee party held a National Delegates Conference (NDC) at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi.
Speaking during the NDC, Uhuru said the Jubilee Party is actively preparing for the next general election.
The former Head of State emphasized the party’s commitment to fielding strong candidates across all elective positions in 2027.
