The scene outside a local hotel has drawn a strong reaction, prompting questions about whether an initiative meant to feed vulnerable residents should have been conducted in a manner that they felt violated human dignity.
For many critics, the issue was not the provision of food but the manner in which it was distributed.
Others, on the other hand, described the spectacle as evidence of how sections of the political class allegedly view ordinary voters.
Others were even more blunt, comparing the scramble to the way animals are fed.
They further argued that the controversy should prompt Kenyans to look beyond the immediate spectacle and consider the quality of leadership and policies they choose at the ballot.
