Mombasa Motorists Face Delays Amid Nyali Bridge Congestion, Police Warn

Motorists in Mombasa have been warned over heavy traffic congestion currently affecting movement within the city.

In a statement by the National Police Service (NPS), on Saturday, April 18, 2026, the seevice confirmed that the snarl-up is most severe along Saba Saba, Buxton, and the busy Nyali Bridge corridor.

“The National Police Service wishes to notify the public about a heavy traffic snarl-up in Mombasa, especially along Saba Saba, Buxton, and Nyali Bridge,” read part of the statement.

In the statement, the police revealed that the disruption has been triggered by ongoing construction works involving pillar installation between Nyali Bridge and Kengeleni, a process expected to continue for several weeks.

The police also noted that traffic officers have been deployed in the affected areas to manage flow and enforce compliance, warning that strict action will be taken against motorists who violate traffic regulations.

“The NPS is working with relevant agencies to restore normal traffic flow. Additional police officers have been deployed to the area and will take stern action against anyone violating traffic rules,” the statement added.

Motorists have therefore been urged to remain patient, observe lane discipline, and consider using alternative routes to help ease congestion and enhance road safety.
