Several traders at Kisumu Bus Park are counting significant losses after a fire broke out on Sunday night and destroyed multiple business stalls at the busy transport hub.
The blaze erupted at around 9 p.m. on June 14 and quickly spread through the area, engulfing businesses and disrupting activities at one of the city’s busiest commercial and transport centres.
Traders and bystanders were forced to watch helplessly as flames consumed shops, kiosks and other structures within the bus park.

Photos and videos shared online showed thick smoke billowing from the scene as residents and business owners made desperate attempts to salvage goods and property.
However, the intensity of the fire made rescue efforts difficult, with many unable to access affected stalls.
By the time the fire was brought under control, the extent of the damage had not been officially determined.
Traders fear losses could run into millions of shillings given the large number of businesses operating within the facility.
Kisumu Bus Park serves not only as a key transport hub but also as a major source of livelihood for hundreds of residents.
The incident also exposed security concerns at the bus park.
Reports from the scene indicated that some individuals allegedly took advantage of the chaos to loot goods from affected businesses after the fire was brought under control.
Witnesses claimed the thefts occurred amid confusion and inadequate security around the area.
Authorities had not issued an official statement on the cause of the fire by the time of publication.
The area hosts a wide range of businesses, including transport offices, kiosks, food vendors, hawkers and retail stalls that support daily economic activity in the lakeside city.
