Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma has nominated Lawyer Linda Kiome as his Deputy Governor.
Lawyer Kiome is currently serving as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Vice-chairperson.
In 2022, she was elected as the acting president of the Law Society of Kenya where she replaced the ousted Nelsion Havi.
She was also the running mate of Mithika Linturi during the 2022 general election.

Mutuma replaced former Governor Kawira Mwangaza whom court upheld her impeachment stating that the Senate had followed legal requirements to impeach her.
During her impeachment at the Senate in August 2024, Kiome acted as a witness who accused Mwangaza of gross misconduct for allegedly faking a letter that touched on the removal of Meru County Public Service Board Secretary and CEO Virginia Kawira.
Apart from that, the former governor had multiple allegations of abuse of office and incompetence.
On the contrary, the law requires a governor to nominate a deputy within 14 days of the occurrence of a vacancy to the county assembly for approval.
Accordingly, the county assembly is required to give its recommendation within 14 days, failure to, the nominee is deemed approved.
