McOure Cautions Politicians Eyeing Raila Odinga’s Leadership Seat

Kasmuel McOure has cautioned individuals seeking to occupy the political space left by the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, warning them against attempting to inherit his leadership role.

Speaking on Saturday, October 18, McOure emphasized that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is now under the stewardship of Raila’s elder brother, Senator Oburu Odinga.

“I am sending a stern warning to those bringing antics in the name of inheriting Raila’s position. You cannot inherit Raila’s position. ODM is now firmly under the leadership of Senator Oburu Odinga,” he noted.

He went on to note that the ODM party remains strong and should continue under Oburu’s leadership for the foreseeable future.

McOure’s statement comes just two days after ODM confirmed Senator Oburu Odinga’s appointment as Acting Party Leader, following the death of his younger brother, Raila Odinga.

In its Thursday, October 16 statement, the party explained that the National Executive Committee (NEC) reached the decision unanimously during a special sitting.

At the same time, Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi reiterated that the ODM Party will stay in government through 2027 and beyond.

Speaking on Friday, October 17, Wandayi said the late Raila Odinga had personally tasked them with ensuring continued collaboration with President William Ruto’s administration.
