The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has invited Kenyans to submit their views on the proposed Code of Conduct for Media Practice, 2025.
According to MCK, the proposed new code of conduct will replace the current code, which has been in place for 15 years.
The council noted that it developed the new code following a court directive to incorporate child protection regulations.

“The new code will replace the 15-year-old Code of Conduct for the Practice of Journalism in Kenya, following a court directive to develop a revised code incorporating child protection regulations,” read part of the MCK statement.
MCK noted that the court gave the directive after the Communications Authority’s Broadcast and Media Standard was declared unconstitutional.
Moreover, the council highlighted that the proposed new code will also address changes driven by technological advancement and innovation that impact journalism practices.
“Aligned with the evolving media landscape, the code addresses changes driven by technological advancements and innovations impacting journalistic practices,” MCK added.
