Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has called for investigations into the controversial killings linked to River Yala and the long-running Ruaraka land saga.
Speaking on Sunday, April 19, Matiang’i emphasized the need for thorough and transparent inquiries into the matters, indicating his willingness to cooperate fully with any investigation if required.

Matiang’i further argued that a public inquest would be the most effective way to conclusively deal with the River Yala killings, the Ruaraka land dispute, and related legal concerns.
“The ghosts of Yala River don’t haunt me. It is a crime that ought to be investigated to its furthest end, and those who were involved brought to book. If they include me, I am ready to account for it. The best way to resolve these matters (River Yala, Ruaraka land, court orders) is to have the public inquest,” he noted.
At the same time, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i warned of growing frustration among public officers, cautioning that the government should be concerned about rising dissatisfaction within its ranks.
Speaking on Sunday, April 19, he pointed to an increasing flow of information from insiders as a sign that many officials were disillusioned with how government affairs are being managed.
Matiang’i further noted that ordinary workers were bearing the brunt of the country’s economic and governance challenges.
He emphasized the need for greater accountability and transparency from leaders, adding that ongoing public demonstrations reflect citizens’ demands for better management and meaningful solutions.
