A 55-year-old man has been convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to defiling his daughter, an offence contrary to the law.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) stated on Wednesday, November 19, that the man admitted before Senior Resident Magistrate Karani in Kitui to sexually abusing his daughter between 2020 and 2024.
He maintained his guilty plea throughout the hearing, despite repeated warnings from the court about the seriousness of the offence and its legal consequences.

During the proceedings, the court read out the facts of the case and reviewed the evidence, all of which the accused confirmed as accurate.
In mitigation, the convict requested the court and prosecution to take into account that he had not wasted judicial time by pleading guilty.
The convicted man is also facing a separate murder charge, accused of killing his daughter’s grandfather, who survived the sexual abuse.
The ODPP stated that the accused had evaded authorities before being apprehended and brought before the court.
Due to the severity of the offences, the court ordered a mental assessment to determine his fitness to stand trial.
The evaluation confirmed that he was mentally competent to enter a plea.
