Police have nabbed a man in Juja after intercepting a vehicle carrying a loaded military-style rifle and multiple suspicious items along Kenyatta Road.
According to reports, the apprehension was made on May 25 during a patrol operation in the area, approximately one kilometre away from Muigai Inn Police Post.
Officers reportedly stopped a green Nissan X-Trail that they found to be suspicious and escorted it together with the driver to the police station for further inspection.
Suspect arrested in Juja carrying loaded military weapon
After a thorough research of the vehicle, the police uncovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition in the magazine and one round in the chamber, concealed under the driver’s seat.
The police also recovered three additional rounds of 7.62mm ammunition beside the seat.
Among other items found in the vehicle included adhesive tape, two daggers, 56 nylon cable ties, assorted sacks, tying ropes and a bunch of keys, all of which were taken as exhibits.
The suspect was later escorted together with the vehicle to Juja Police Station, where he is being held pending further investigations and possible arraignment in court.
The vehicle used in the incident has also been detained as part of the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, officers are working to establish the origin of the items.
