Mama Ida also acknowledged the heightened media attention surrounding her nomination in recent days, noting that she remains unfazed by the spotlight.
President Ruto nominated Mama Ida Odinga as Kenya’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on Friday, January 23.
In a communiqué, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei said the nomination has been submitted to the National Assembly for consideration and approval, in line with constitutional requirements governing appointments to the Foreign Service.
Koskei noted that the appointment, once approved by Parliament, is expected to enhance Kenya’s influence on environmental issues and strengthen its leadership role in global environmental governance, particularly as host of the UN’s principal environmental body.
If approved by the National Assembly, Mama Ida will replace Ababu Namwamba, who has been reassigned to serve as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda.
