Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw away at Aston Villa on Friday night but still managed to extend their lead over Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table.
The Reds missed the chance to open up a 10-point lead on Arsenal in the race for the Premier League title.
The match was hard-fought, and Liverpool could have won had Darwin Nunez converted a golden chance from just six yards out.
Despite the disappointment, Liverpool remains in a strong position ahead of the title run-in, with an eight-point gap between them and Arsenal.
Virgil van Dijk admitted that Liverpool squandered a crucial opportunity to create some serious distance from Arsenal in the Premier League standings.
The Reds took the lead in the first half with a goal from Mohamed Salah, but goals from Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins turned the game on its head.
Trent Alexander-Arnold equalized for Liverpool on the hour mark, and although they had opportunities to win and extend their lead to 10 points, they ultimately settled for a draw.
Nunez missed a significant chance to secure a victory with the score at 2-2 when he failed to score from close range.
In his post-match comments, Slot reflected, “We had some very good moments and scored the first goal from a good pressing situation. However, we took it as the game unfolded and were almost punished at the end when Donyell Malen shot wide.”
He continued, “If you look at the chances we had in the second half to take the lead, it’s clear that one person in the dressing room is feeling quite low, and you know who that is.”
Liverpool is one step closer to discovering their opponent in the Last 16 of the Champions League, following the completion of the final round of play-off fixtures on Wednesday night.
