Live Bomb Discovered on Farmland in Kikuyu, Kiambu County

Security officers on Friday, October 24, rushed to Nduma village in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, after farmers unearthed a live explosive while working on a farm.

According to Kikuyu Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Ndege, the device was identified as an 80mm artillery bomb, popularly known as an “80 mic mic,” believed to date back to the colonial period.

The discovery led to an immediate evacuation of the area as a specialized disposal team from Nairobi was dispatched to handle the explosive.

He explained that due to the bomb’s high explosive potential, if detonated locally, it could cause damage within a 50-meter radius.

After the discovery, police cordoned off the scene and moved the explosive to a secure location for analysis and eventual controlled detonation. 

Officers said investigations are still underway to determine the origin of the device.

Meanwhile, residents were urged to stay vigilant and report any unusual metallic items or buried materials that could pose a safety risk.
