KURA Issues Traffic Notice on Partial Closure of Nairobi Arterial Roads

Several key roads within the Nairobi CBD and its environs are set to be temporary closed to traffic as the Kenya Urban Road Authority (KURA) alerted motorists of upcoming road works.

In a notice, KURA announced the partial closure of Kenyatta Avenue, Valley Road and Jakwaya Kikwete Road from June 12, 2026 till February 12, 2027.

According to the authority, the move is to allow the contractor to undertake bridge construction while ensuring the safety of road users and minimising traffic disruptions.

In addition, Ngong Road will experience partial closure for one week, from June 11 to June 18, 2026, between Windy Ridge and Westwood Park Road, to facilitate the installation of twin cross culverts.

“Ngong Road will be partially closed for one week to allow the contractor to install twin cross culverts at the section between Windy Ridge and Westwood Park Road,” part of the notice read.

Furthermore, Haile Selassie Avenue will be partially closed for four months, from June 12, 2026, to October 12, 2026, to facilitate bridge construction works.

The affected areas include the area between the SHA building and the Madison Insurance Building.

KURA explained that the works are part of the final finishing phase of ongoing road improvements aimed at enhancing traffic flow and urban mobility along the busy corridor.

Following the announcement of the partial closures, KURA advised motorists to use alternative routes and follow directions from traffic police officers and marshals who will be deployed at the site during the closure hours.
