The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has introduced a new electronic certificate platform that allows former national examination candidates to access and download digital copies of their certificates online.
According to reports, the new platform is available to candidates whose certificates are in the KNEC database from 1989 to 2025, with applicants able to access their certificates after identity verification and payment.
Applicants can create an account, verify their identity, pay the KSh 1,200 fee and download a verifiable digital certificate without visiting KNEC offices or their former schools.
The new development will benefit thousands of former students who have lost either their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) certificates.

Therefore, the applicants will equired to register on the e-Certificate portal using their email address before completing their personal profile, according to KNEC’s user guide.
Additionally, Kenya applicants must provide their National Identity details, which are verified automatically through the Integrated Population Registration System (IPRS).
After successful identity verification, will be required to enter their examination index number, select the examination type, either KCSE or KCPE, and indicate the year they sat for the examination.
Furthermore, candidates whose details are successfully verified are then prompted to pay a certificate generation fee of Ksh1,200 plus VAT and applicable eCitizen charges through available payment options.
Once payment is confirmed, the digital certificate becomes available for the applicant to download in Portable Document Format (PDF).
There will also be a separate verification portal for organisations such as universities, employers, government agencies and professional bodies to verify their employees’ academic certificates
