Several people have reportedly been feared dead while several others sustained injuries following a grisly road accident at Chimoi along the Bungoma-Eldoret Highway.
According to reports, the crash involved a truck carrying logs and a North Rift 14-seater public service vehicle (PSV) matatu.
Preliminary reports indicate that the truck overturned and landed on top of the matatu, trapping passengers inside the wreckage.
Reports indicate that residents and other motorists rushed to the scene and attempted to rescue those trapped.
However, the rescue efforts were hampered by the lack of heavy machinery needed to lift the truck off the crushed matatu.
The accident caused a major traffic snarl-up along the busy Bungoma-Eldoret Highway, with motorists advised to avoid the area or expect significant delays as emergency responders worked at the scene.
Further reports indicate that police and emergency teams had not yet confirmed the exact number of fatalities or injuries by the time of publication, with rescue operations still ongoing.
