The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has warned against a fake training programme circulating online and falsely linked to the council.
The fake poster is said to have advertised a workshop targeting seniolr school assessment personnel, including deputy principals, heads of departments and directors of studies.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 18, 2026, KNEC clarified that it is not the organiser of the advertised workshop and is not involved in any training activities that require payment from members of the public.
“We wish to caution the public that KNEC is not the organiser, neither is it involved in the training being advertised in this poster,” the statement read.
The fake notice also included payment instructions and a registration process for interested participants, claiming the workshop will be held at Kenyatta University Main Campus.
In response to the matter, the council emphasised that it does not collect money from stakeholders for training on assessment or examination-related matters.
“As an organisation, KNEC is not in the business of collecting money from stakeholders for training on assessment. Beware of fraudsters,” the statement added.
The council further insisted that the poster is misleading and intends to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
It also warned that such schemes are designed to deceive individuals into making payments under false pretences.
Additionally, KNEC urged members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid sending money to individuals or groups claiming to represent the council, as well as verify all official communication through its recognised and official channels.
