DCI Appeals for Information on Vehicle Torching Suspects

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has appealed to members of the public to assist in identifying suspects linked to the torching of a vehicle along Thika Road during Monday’s protests, which caused major disruption along the busy highway.

The incident, which involved a Mazda CX-5, occurred as demonstrations over the rising cost of fuel escalated in several parts of the country.

In a statement, the investigative agency revealed that detectives had already obtained and begun analysing viral video footage believed to show some of the individuals suspected to have participated in the attack.

Authorities indicated that the footage was expected to play a critical role in helping investigators establish the identities of those involved and reconstruct the events leading up to the incident.

The DCI noted that investigations into the matter remain active, with officers pursuing multiple leads in a bid to track down all suspects connected to the vehicle torching.

According to the agency, the incident not only caused significant property damage but also posed a serious threat to the safety of motorists, protesters and members of the public who were present along the highway at the time.

They warned that acts of violence and destruction during protests undermine public safety and would be treated as criminal offences under the law.

Moreover, DCI appealed to Kenyans with any useful information regarding the suspects or the incident to cooperate with investigators.

Members of the public who may recognise individuals captured in the footage or possess details that could assist the investigation were urged to report to the nearest police station or contact the agency through the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline.
