Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has expressed confidence that President Ruto stands a strong chance of securing re-election in the 2027 general elections, citing Kenya’s long-standing tradition of presidents serving two terms.
Speaking on December 7, Khalwale noted that while history favours incumbents, the outcome could change if the president mishandles political strategy in the run-up to the polls.
“The country has a history of all our presidents getting a second term. I don’t see why William Ruto should be an exception. The only way he can be an exception is if his politics are done badly. You can be winning, and then you spoil,” said Khalwale.

At the same time, the Senator clarified his October remarks in which he cautioned President Ruto that the 2027 elections could be challenging, saying he had not meant that the situation had already become difficult but that tougher political times may lie ahead.
He reiterated that Ruto remains his preferred presidential candidate heading into the 2027 race and maintained that his earlier comments were intended to encourage, not undermine, the President.
His remarks came shortly after he was removed as Senate Majority Whip and replaced by Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli, following official communication from the Majority Party.
