Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has criticised Rigathi Gachagua over claims that politicians from the Mount Kenya region should dominate Nairobi’s political landscape after the 2027 General Elections.
Speaking at a public event on Sunday, December 7, Duale urged Gachagua to recognise the role that different communities have played in Nairobi’s social and economic development.
He said the remarks were politically driven and risked creating unnecessary divisions between the Mount Kenya region and other communities that have historically maintained strong social and business ties in the capital.

Duale emphasised the need for leaders to avoid divisive rhetoric, saying the country’s goal is to build a united nation where all communities feel included.
His remarks came shortly after Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua dismissed claims of internal power struggles within the opposition in Nairobi, insisting the coalition remained intact.
Gachagua maintained that the opposition would coordinate closely to support allies in their political strongholds and said the group intended to rely on Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s experience to shape its strategy in the capital.
He also called on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders to cooperate with the opposition in its effort to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 general election.
