City-based car dealer Khalif Kairo was rearrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations shortly after attending a court session on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
The exact reason for his rearrest is not clear yet.
The businessman appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina for the mention of one of his numerous fraud cases.
Kairo, through his lawyer Davidson Makau, requested the release of his passport to facilitate his travel to the United States for a seven-day fundraiser.

The Prosecution in a rejoinder said Kairo must serve the court with all details of his visit including when he intends to leave the country before any consideration is made.
In response, Magistrate Onyina directed that the matter be mentioned again on January 31 to allow Kairo time to submit documents supporting his request.
Khalif Kairo was recently charged with failing to honour car sale agreements.
He faces two separate charges of cheating contrary to section 315 of the penal code.
For each of the charges, the court granted him a cash bail of Sh1 million with an alternative of a bond.
